Common name: Himalayan Trillium • Nepali: नक्कली सतुवा Nakkalee Satuwaa
Botanical name: Trillium govanianum    Family: Melanthiaceae (Bunchflower family)
Synonyms: Trillidium govanianum

Himalayan Trillium is a perennial herb Known only from scattered localities in the Himalayas, Bhutan, Nepal and China, at altitudes of 2700-4000 m. It is so distinct that it prompted a few to think of it as a separate genus Trillidium. The plant has some similarity to Himalayan Paris. Stocky 15 cm purple-red stems carry 3 green leaves just below a single, small, starry flower of deep red and green color. This species is unusual in that the \ sepals and petals resemble each other, giving a six-petalled appearance. These contrast well with the prominent yellow anthers and red style, that sits atop the flower. The flower is followed by a grape-red fruit, sitting at the center of the three leaves. Flowering: May-June.
